Belated 10-Year Anniversary!

Sending Love to Taitung, Taiwan

        Event background:

In an age where everything seems to be digitized and the world is connected through a mere phone screen, it’s easy for us to pretend that we are aware of the circumstances beyond our own sheltered lives. Even as we keep track of current events through news articles and social media, we are still out of touch as we watch from behind screens, oceans away. We readily accept what is easily available and digestible to us from the media, but we can’t truly understand how it’s like to live in their shoes—we can only sympathize. There is a very clear disparity between those who have the power to observe and those who are experiencing the struggles firsthand.

It’s not until we commit ourselves, get our hands dirty, that we can truly understand how fortunate we are. Through programs like GYP, taking that initial step to take a glimpse into the lives of children in under-resourced countries or under difficult circumstances, we can be more compassionate and empathetic of other youth around the world. This year, the proceeds of our fundraising concert are going to Kids Alive International, a non-profit committed to providing care to orphans and children with disabilities. Kids Alive International has centers across the globe, and the donations from our concert will be specifically going to Nantou, Taiwan. The Puli children’s home in Nantou provides children with love, education, vocational training, and a safe and welcoming community above all.

GYP is a rare window into the world beyond our own, and it has helped me develop a deeper connection to the world around me. I’m grateful for this opportunity to be able to not only help improve the lives of others, but also better understand our world and be thankful for the privileges that I have. Cheers to 11 years of GYP and counting, and I hope you will support us as we strive to use music as a medium to help make the lives of youth around the globe more equitable.
