Sending Love to Bardia, Nepal
Event background:
Living in the affluence of Silicon
Valley, we sometimes forget the bubble we live in. There
are those throughout the country and the world who are
much less fortunate and lack access to basic necessities
such as clean running water or a warm and safe home to
sleep in every night. We truly are fortunate and
frequently neglect the fact that the time and money we put
toward luxuries could be better spent on assisting others
with necessities. This is the reason Global Youth
Philanthropy exists. GYP is able to bring together local
high schoolers through music and widens our views of the
economic, social, and political development of countries
across the globe. The power of music does not only affect
an audience who appreciates the music we perform but also
helps children and orphans on the other side of the world.
Four other members and I visited the children’s home in
Bardia, Nepal this past February and working with the kids
let me see how even the smallest of actions can make such
a huge difference in other’s lives. From going to their
local schools to teach English and math, to performing a
Beatles song for them on the final day, I would not trade
the experiences or interactions for anything else. We
helped with the construction of the new girls' dorm and
were motivated by the kids' smiles to come back and
raise funds for the project. I am so grateful that I am able to use my passion in music to create change in the world and I hope that all of you will support us on our mission to better the world as well. Eric Huang

Concert Charter:
When the GYP
team first arrived in Bardia, Nepal, they
witnessed how rural and how middle of nowhere the town
seemed to be. The dirt
roads were quite bumpy and many locals lived in makeshift
houses. As they arrived
at the orphanage, they were surprised at the limited
access to electricity, but soon
realized that the living conditions were not all that
great either. The
almost 30 kids were all squeezed into a tiny building,
with a simple wall
dividing the boys from the girls. Outside they saw the
development of the new
dormitory for the girls and they immediately knew
that the money from their
fundraising concerts would perfectly cover the costs of
the new dorm. They tried
to help a little with moving stones and bricks and the
children were happy to see
progress being made on the building. All proceeds of this year's
fundraising concert are
therefore going to the building of the new girl's
dormitory. It was amazing to
see how excited the girls were as they helped lay the
foundation (the boys were
excited to get larger rooms as well when the girls would
move out). The
construction of this building is vital to the growth and
development of these
children as a better living environment will ensure a
healthier body and a
better space for them to study and sleep. The team were
excited to see the full
completion of the girls' dormitory and they were glad that
the GYP Team were able to
support such a noble cause for children that deserve
this.
