Sending Love to Siliguri, India

        Event background:

As high schoolers, it’s easy to get wrapped up in our own goals—whether it’s winning competitions or moving up a level in music or sports. I know when I started playing piano at six years old, it was all about hitting those milestones. But Global Youth Philanthropy has shown us something bigger: that these skills we’ve spent years developing can be used for something more. Instead of just aiming for our personal best, we’re channeling our music to bring positive change to communities that need it most. GYP gives us a way to make a real impact, even as students.

Growing up in Silicon Valley, we live in an environment of innovation and privilege, often without realizing how different it is from the realities many others face. The pressures and challenges we experience here as students are real, but there’s a world of difference between our lives and those of children in under-resourced communities. When I visited First Love International, the children’s resilience and excitement is what struck me—not through a narrative of need but through the pride in their culture. They sang songs in Hindi, Nepali, and English, recited daily prayers, and danced in traditional Nepali styles, all with a joy and spirit that reminded me of the depth and beauty in their lives.

Being part of GYP for four years has made this mission personal to me, especially after visiting Kids Alive International and First Love International over the past two years. I hope you all will take a part in expanding the reach of GYP and supporting its goals!
