Sending Love to Taitung, Taiwan
Event background:
Living in an area like Silicon Valley has its perks but it also has its own faults. We all grew up in this affluent region where we had access to everything we needed anytime we needed it. If we wanted access to an education, all we had to do was sign up for classes. If we wanted more physical necessities like water or food, all we had to do was buy it. We never had to truly struggle and cope with the harsh world, and as a result, we failed to open our eyes to see how drastically different much of the world is. With these privileges in mind, GYP strives to help our members and the rest of our community understand the importance of helping others. Being able to organize this concert made me realize how much time and resources was really used and that made me better realize just how privileged I am. Even having the luxury to hop onto a plane and visit the orphanage itself is an extremely lucky privilege. As a member of GYP for 4 years and event chair this year, I found my experience to be extremely rewarding and I can definitely see how I can reap the benefits of my hard work in this group. By utilizing the resources that we have available instead of hoarding things for ourselves we can break the cycle and help everyone move forward together. I hope you will join us in our mission as we help ourselves recognize the privileges that we have as well as help other youth around the world dream big and become people they want to be.
